OUR STORY
One day eyv’s founder, Teddy Ward, was watching a news story that he noticed purposely omitted key information in order to push a skewed narrative. A narrative that was clearly divisive, as it was intended to satisfy the perception of a select group of people. Teddy thought how this was similar to a child sitting down to dinner, and a parent choosing to only provide what the child wanted. Serving chicken nuggets, pizza french fries and desserts while foregoing necessary vegetables because the child thinks they are bitter and don't taste good. This unhealthy practice of indulgence has become commonplace in our consumption of information, and is nurturing division as it negatively skews our perception of one another and society itself.

In response to this, Teddy, an Atlanta based artist whose work typically focuses on self-identity, society and our place in it, decided to make a counter message in the form of a challenge. A challenge for us all to consume as much unbiased information as possible and not just the biased narratives that satisfy our limited individual perceptions. Inspired by the distressed character faces of German-Austrian sculptor Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, the “eat ya veggies” art style was born. Featuring a floating anguished face commiting to consume something that is good for them, no matter how bitter or displeasing it may be. It is our belief that when we take part in this challenge and gain a more complete understanding on current events and social issues, we can explore them with more respect, patience and tolerance towards one another. Let us all make a toast with our metaphorical forks, accept the challenge and proclaim that it is time to
“eat ya veggies.”
